Commissioner Bart Roper’s DUI Scandal

Apparently, a DUI scandal is not only limited to partying starlets and socialites. Cooper City Commissioner Bartlett Roper received a lot of flak after he was charged with DUI in November 2006.

Roper was found by Davie paramedics slumped on his pickup truck. Officers said the Cooper City commissioner was obviously drunk but refused to take the Breathalyzer test. He also failed the field sobriety test and displayed further questionable behavior by displaying an obscene hand gesture to the paramedics.

The scandal came shortly after the news that the Cooper City Commissioners were drinking alcoholic beverages right before public meetings and were charging these drinks on public funds. Roper later pleaded no contest to the DUI charge. He was sentenced to six months probation and community service. He was also required to complete 12 hours of DUI school.

Roper announced that he will not be seeking reelection in the 2008 local polls.
