Cooper City News
In recent Cooper City news, residents would have to set a side a bigger budget for their utilities this year as Cooper City officials approve a series of water rate increases. The first rate hike, a 12.5 percent increase, took effect in March 1. Another 7.5 percent hike will be implemented on October 1 this year and a further increase of four percent will take effect on October 1, 2009.
According to Cooper City officials, the revenue collected in this series of water rate hikes will be employed to meet the $13 million bond which was used to finance the water and wastewater systems of Cooper City. The revenue will also be used to supplement the weakening income of the utilities department as well as to partly finance the needed upgrades and repairs of the water treatment and sewer facilities.
This sounds like bad news for Cooper City residents but Mayor Debby Eisinger said the water rate increases are necessary for the continued supply of water and sewerage services to the city.
