Cooper City HS

Cooper City High School offers a range of diploma options to students. Choosing a diploma option is very important in future education and employment pursuit and, thus, this decision is made after the student and his family has had a consultation with the IEP team. The choice of diploma is based on the student’s needs and goals.

The types of diploma in Cooper City HS are the following: standard diploma, standard diploma with FCAT waiver, special diploma option 1, and special diploma option 2. The standard diploma is what most Cooper City HS students earn. In order to be eligible for this, students must complete the high school general curriculum and get the required credits, earn at least a 2.0 grade point average, and pass both parts of the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test.

Standard diploma with FCAT waiver is given to Cooper City HS students who earn a 2.0 GPA or higher but whose capabilities would not be appropriately measured by the FCAT given the allowable accommodations. These students should still participate in the FCAT though and undergo remedial sessions in Math and/or Reading if passing scores were not attained.

The special diploma is granted to Cooper City HS students with disabilities such as visual or speech impairment. In the first option, students can earn the Cooper City HS special diploma by completing a minimum number of of course credits as determined by the Broward State School Board and by showing a mastery of the Sunshine State Standards for special diploma. Under option 2, Cooper City HS students must complete an individually designed training plan that includes successful employment for at least one semester at or above minimum wage and achievement of specified goals in relation to community living skills.
