Cooper City, a bedroom community in Broward County in southern Florida, revels in its hometown community atmosphere integrated with measured growth of the local economy. Its proximity to the bigger urban centers of Fort Lauderdale and Miami makes it an ideal suburb town. The mean travel time to work for Cooper City residents is only about 30 minutes.

Out of the total local population of around 30,000, about 75 percent is in the labor force. Almost 98 percent of these are employed, putting the unemployment rate at 2.7 percent. Forty-five percent of the workers are employed in management professions, 29 percent are in sales and office work, 12 percent are in various types of services, and a little more than 10 percent are in construction, production, and transportation occupations. The agricultural sector which includes farming, fishing, and forestry occupations accounts for less than one percent.

Education, health, and social services make up one-fourth of the local industries in Cooper City in terms of employment. They employ more than 3,600 workers. Professional, administrative, scientific, and waste management services as well as the retail trade each employ a little more than 10 percent of the work force. The rest of the labor sector are fairly distributed among other industries such as wholesale trade, construction, manufacturing, transportation and warehousing, information, finance and real estate, arts and entertainment, and public administration.

More than three-fourths of the work force in Cooper City are waged and salaried private employees while 19 percent are government workers. The city has the fourth highest median household income in Broward County with an estimated income of US$84,100 as of 2005. The median earnings of male full-time workers is US$51,931 while the median income of women is US$33,788.

Most males occupy management and sales positions while females often work as teachers, secretaries, office staff, administrative workers, registered nurses, and auditing clerks. The most common industries for males are the professional, scientific, and technical services as well as construction and public administration. Females, on the other hand, are often employed in the health care sector and in education services.

Some of the current job search postings are mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) engineers, bank tellers, insurance agents, and sales representatives. The main attraction of Cooper City though is not just the available jobs but the community that people can come home to after a long day at work.
